Rising World Demand For Suzuki SX4 Reflected In New Zealand Market
Increasing worldwide demand for the Suzuki SX4 crossover model is being reflected in the New Zealand marketplace.
While total new car sales in New Zealand have declined slightly this year, the versatile SX4 has posted solid advances.
Year to date sales of SX4 cars have risen 84 percent compared to the same January-August period last year, according to
the Motor Industry Association statistics.
A total of 966 SX4’s were newly registered in the first eight months of this year, compared with 524 for the same period
in 2007.
Available in both five-door hatchback and four-door sedan forms, and with a choice of 1.6 and 2.0 litre engines, the SX4
is the second most popular Suzuki model in New Zealand, beaten only by the award-winning Swift.
Buyers also have the option of two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive for Suzuki’s third world strategy model.
Monthly sales of the practical, fuel-efficient SX4 have reached record levels in New Zealand during 2008.
Buoyant sales of the distinctive SX4 helped drive Suzuki sales in New Zealand to a monthly record in August.
In the United States, the SX4 has become the biggest selling Suzuki model, playing a key factor in the marque achieving
all-time sales highs.
While total new car sales in Canada have lifted by a modest 2 percent, SX4 volume is up 26 percent.
The SX4 has become one of the brand’s most popular models in Canada, with customer orders for the hatchback version
exceeding supply.
Demand for the SX4 sub-compact car in North America reflects consumers’ moves to buy economical vehicles amid higher
petrol prices.
Consumers have warmed to the well-balanced SX4 which was styled by the famous Italian design studio, Giorgetto Giugiaro.
The SX4 launched with an intelligent all wheel drive comprising a switchable three-mode 4X4 system with electronic
control.
Later the range was extended to include a front-wheel-drive version and a booted notchback sedan model.
With its high stance and larger engines, the SX4 is proving an ideal bigger brother to the top-selling Suzuki Swift.
Suzuki’s Automobile exports reached a record level of 42,892 units in July. Of the 243,845 global production figure for
Suzuki cars and four-wheel commercial vehicles in July, 117,508 were made in Japan.
