Glacier-fed hot pools installed on West Coast
The first commercial hot pools complex on New Zealand’s rugged West Coast is taking shape as two of the three public pools are installed.
The Glacier Hot Pools is a multi-million dollar hot pools complex nestled in Franz Josef’s native rainforest.
Phase one of the development will feature three main hot pools and three private pools, designed for family groups or couples. The Glacier Hot Pools will open in spring this year.
“We’re making great progress and we’re on track to open in spring with six invitingly warm pools, all surrounded by lush native bush and fed with pure local glacier water,” said Kerry Walker, Sales & Marketing Manager for The Glacier Hot Pools.
“We aim to offer locals and tourists an invigorating way to relax in Franz Josef, and an attraction that will complement the great range of activities already available on the West Coast.
“An evening under the stars, sheltered by nature’s leafy canopy at The Glacier Hot Pools, will be a year-round experience and one people won’t want to miss,” said Ms Walker.
The pools are being developed by Ngai Tahu Tourism and Joseph Developments Limited and are located in the centre of Franz Josef township, just off Cron Street. Work began in December 2007 and the next major milestone will be the completion of the main pools and then the installation of the first private pools.
The Glacier Hot Pools will be promoted as the perfect way to relax after travelling, rafting, a heli-hike on Franz Josef Glacier or an indoor ice climb at the Hukawai Glacier Centre.
Phase two will include additional main and private hot pools.
