Wellington Drive Technologies opens state-of-the-art manufacturing and logistics facility in Singapore
14 August 2008 – Wellington Drive Technologies (NZX: WDT), the world’s leading supplier of energy-saving EC motors and
fans, has opened its first major international facility, with a manufacturing and logistics plant in Singapore.
Singapore’s Minister for National Development Mr Mah Bow Tan unveiled the Auckland-based company’s 15,000 sq ft
facility, which will provide a foundation for Wellington’s further research into energy-saving technology and be a
test-bed manufacturing capability before products are taken into mass production globally.
Wellington CEO Dr Ross Green says, ``While the majority of our engineering will remain based in New Zealand, this new
facility enables us to better service our global clients who look to us to deliver products that provide energy
consumption reduction and significant cost savings to the end consumer.’’
Minister Mah Bow Tan says, ``The opening of this Wellington facility reflects the high level of confidence and trust
that our international partners place in Singapore and is very much in line with our national commitment to help reduce
the impact of climate change. This is evident with the government’s recent investment of S$350 million in making
Singapore a ‘Clean and Green Country’.’’
The global clean energy market is growing quickly and revenues are projected to hit US$226 billion by 2016, according to
leading US research firm Clean Edge.
Dr Green concludes, ``Energy saving and the reduction of carbon emissions through better end use energy efficiency is a
vital and profitable initiative that gives immediate benefits. As concerns about environmental issues increase,
consumers are demanding commitments from businesses and governments to support environmental sustainability. There is
untapped potential and Wellington has stepped up with a strong commitment to not only provide energy consumption
reduction but also significant cost savings to the end-consumer.’’
