Dunedin Airport Wins Gold Award
MWH’s innovative heating and ventilation system for Dunedin International Airport has won a Gold Award in this year’s
Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand Awards of Excellence.
This is the second major national award for this project following its win in last year’s Energy Efficiency and
Conservation Authority Awards.
Peter Watson MWH’s Project Manager says “This project has resulted in substantial energy consumption reductions and
lower costs to the airport. It is a key part of the airport's objective of being both economically efficient and
environmentally aware.”
The heat pump energy system uses water drawn from the Taieri aquifer under the terminal as its main source of energy.
The system was ‘moulded’ around this energy source to minimise energy consumption, operating and capital costs. This is
the first major groundwater heatpump solution in New Zealand.
