UP FM Leads The Way
Tired of listening to automated juke boxes or mainstream networks that don’t care about what you have to say?
UP FM, New Zealand’s largest full-spectrum dance music radio station, continues to lead the way in interactive radio
that puts the listener in the driver’s seat.
UP FM has this month launched a brand new, interactive online player to complement the studio’s on-air texting facility,
which itself has recently received a major revamp.
This new technology means that listeners now have the ability to communicate with UP FM DJs on a level never seen
before, enabling them to become an active part of the on–air programming.
Listeners tune in online at www.upfm.dj and not only are they able to listen to live streaming of the station in crystal
clear, stereo quality, they can now also message the studio for free straight from the player and take part in on-air
text competitions.
Once a listener has registered on the website, their name, a picture of their choice (avatar) and mobile number will
display, along with their message, on the studio computer. This not only encourages the listeners to get more involved,
it personalises communication between the DJs and their audience and helps the station to tailor its programming to the
needs and wants of the listeners.
The new online messaging system is also integrated with the text service, so once someone has registered online, any
texts from their mobile phone to the studio (texts are sent to 8736, or UPFM, at a cost of 20c) will also link to their
name and avatar.
The new technology was conceived by Jarra Borman, Programming Director of UP FM, and was developed in partnership with
the talented team at Silent Communications.
