Guild Briefs National MPs on Pharmacy Issues - Wellington
At Pharmacy Guild headquarters in Wellington today, the Guild Executive Council briefed National Party health spokesperson Hon Tony Ryall and associate health spokesperson Dr Jackie Blue on the issues facing community pharmacy.
This is part of the Guild’s campaign encouraging their members to go out and meet local MPs and candidates in the lead-up to the election.
“Tony Ryall and Jackie Blue seem to be very comfortable with the concept of community pharmacy as a public-private partnership.”
“They appreciated the value of the private infrastructure of community pharmacies which allows for the convenient delivery of health services to the Kiwis in their local area.” says Guild Chief Executive Annabel Young.
“The Guild Council explained how the ongoing viability of the pharmacies outside the hospital setting is at risk from under funding.”
The National Party MPs gave a strong indication of their commitment to the pharmacy sector if they were to be successful in their bid to be the Government at this year’s 2008 General Election.
“Pharmacy has a vital role to play in providing better, sooner, more convenient health care.” says Dr Jackie Blue.
She adds “If we are fortunate enough to be the Government after the election, we look forward to working with the pharmacy sector to achieve this vision.”
