Flight Centre On The Look Out For Travel Volunteers!
New Zealand’s largest travel retailer is offering three Kiwis the opportunity to experience the world and make a
difference to it with a travel scholarship.
The three Flight Centre ‘Unbeatable Experience’ travel scholarships are open for application to any New Zealander who is
inspired by the concept of volunteering in India, Thailand, Vietnam or Fiji and while working on community projects.
Volunteering work options include teaching English or maths, light building work on new public facilities such as
schools or hospitals, and coaching rugby, netball or soccer at a local school.
Flight Centre Communications and Sponsorship Manager Melanie Pohl says the scholarships are an exciting initiative that
gives the travel company a way of sharing their passion for travel with Kiwis in a meaningful way.
“We are really excited about offering scholarships that combine our love for destinations like Thailand, Fiji, Vietnam
and India with a community-minded concept like volunteering,” says Ms Pohl.
“These scholarships will open up the world to three people who might not otherwise get the opportunity to travel, to
really learn about another culture, and also allow them to make a difference to those countries.”
Volunteer holidays - or “voluntourism” - has been one of the fastest growing travel trends for Kiwis over the past five
years. They have become a popular holiday option for students, middle age executives looking for something different in
a holiday, and even retirees wanting to see the world and but also give something back.
The Flight Centre Unbeatable Experiences Travel Scholarships include airfares, volunteering package with well known
project operator Intrepid Travel, and travel insurance for the duration of the two week project. Applications are open
from 1 to 31 August 2008.
