Record Price For Escorial Cloth
On 22nd June 2008, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand, auctioned 2 metres of Escorial cloth fetching $4,100. The cloth was a donation from The Escorial Company to the Symphony Orchestra.
The fabric, a woollen spun jacketing cloth was part of a piece especially woven for Yves Saint Laurent’s final couture collection.
The fabric will be custom tailored into a jacket by Working Style.
Escorial, launched in 1999 has earned its reputation as a luxury fibre brand. Holland and Sherry, who produce the world’s finest cloths, sell Escorial to top tailors and fashion houses worldwide.
Peter Radford, Managing Director of The Escorial Company explained, “The Escorial customer is someone who truly values rarity and luxury. Our relationship with Holland and Sherry started in 2004 and through their outlets and their personal dressing company Tom James, Escorial is offered in all the best places around the world.”
Escorial was founded in New Zealand by Peter Radford who captured the Escorial story. The Escorial flocks descend from Spanish King Phillip’s 17th century El Escorial flock. The bloodlines have been kept pure and Escorial prides itself on being rare, naturally grown and traceable to origin.
The Escorial fibre has a spring like characteristic, a natural memory that creates wonderfully light, naturally flexible and crease resistant garments.
Peter said, “Escorial has dressed royalty, presidents and movie stars around the globe and to have the Escorial Yves Saint Laurent cloth auctioned for The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra is fantastic. This is the first time Escorial cloth has been offered in New Zealand. It is good to bring it home after all these years!”
