Rockburn Pinot Noir wins Gold in San Francisco
Rockburn Pinot Noir 2007 has earned a gold medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. Now in its 28th
year, it is the largest, most influential wine competition in America, judged by a prestigious panel of nationally
recognized wine experts.
The Competition is directed by Blue Lifestyle’s Anthony Dias Blue. Editor-in-chief of Patterson’s The Tasting Panel
magazine and Executive Director of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, he is recognized world-wide as a leading
food, wine, travel and spirits authority.
In addition to this gold medal, the Rockburn Pinot Noir 2007 earned a 90-91/100 rating from Neal Martin in last month’s
edition of The Wine Advocate in the USA. Martin tasted a barrel sample of the Pinot Noir 2007 with winemaker Malcolm
Rees-Francis during a visit to Central Otago in January and commented “A barrel sample of the 2007 Pinot Noir shows
great promise. Luscious fruit on the nose with doris plum and briery, a sense of minerality that I did not pick up on
either 2006.”
Rockburn Wines has a history of winning gold medals, particularly for its Pinot Noir, at such shows as the Air New
Zealand Awards, the New Zealand International Wine Show and the New Zealand Royal Easter Show. The Rockburn Pinot Noir
2006 also won the “Champion Open Red” Trophy at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards in 2007.
Rockburn has two vineyards in Central Otago, one on the Gibbston Back Road in the Gibbston Valley and the other at
Parkburn in the Cromwell Basin.
While renowned for its award-winning Pinot Noir, Rockburn also produces Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay
and Sauvignon Blanc.
