New name for ACA: Australasian Casino Association
June 18, 2008 –Sydney, Australia: The members of the Australian Casino Association have voted to change the name of the association to Australasian Casino Association, to better reflect its 18 casino members.
The Association www.AusCasinos.com has been in existence since 1992, when a group of casino operators in Australia decided that it was more effective to approach government as a united industry then as separate entities.
Executive Director Chris Downy said that today all thirteen Australian casinos and five of New Zealand‘s casinos are members of the association. “The name change reflects the membership base of the association and was a logical step to take.”
The Association has also moved its main office to Sydney but still maintains its former office in Canberra, Australia’s national capital.
Each year Australia and New Zealand casinos attract nearly 56.04 million visitors, with visitors spending over $AU3.6 billion at Australian casino properties alone. The casino industry’s substantial economic contribution provides over $AU1 billion in Australian, and $AU94.7 million in New Zealand, government taxes, and contributes $AU54.9 million combined to the Australian and New Zealand communities through sponsorship and support.
The casino industry is committed to their staff, providing significant training and career support to over 19,900 people Australia wide, and 3,967 staff in New Zealand. Over $1.1 billion in salaries and wages is provided to Australian and New Zealand households, with wages and salaries above the national average in both countries.
