TVNZ Appoints New General Manager, Maori Programmes
TVNZ has appointed Paora Maxwell as its new General Manager of Maori Programmes.
Mr Maxwell (Ngati Rangiwewehi, Te Ure o Uenukukopako & Te Arawa whanui) is a prominent member of the Maori film and television industry who began his career in television
with TVNZ in 1988 as a director of children's programmes. He also worked for the Maori Programmes Department under Ernie
Leonard, before establishing his own production company, Te Aratai Productions, 14 years ago. Under Mr Maxwell's
producership, the company has created hundreds of hours of Maori content for New Zealand broadcasters.
Mr Maxwell is a former Chairman of Nga Aho Whakaari, the industry body representing Maori independent producers, and has
been a long-serving Board member of Te Putahi Paaho, the Maori Electoral College which set up the Maori Television
Service.
TVNZ's Head of Television, Jeff Latch, says Mr Maxwell has an outstanding combination of professional expertise
alongside wide-ranging connections within both Maoridom and the broadcasting community that will be a major asset to
TVNZ.
Mr Maxwell takes up his position early next month.
