Fonterra Welcomes Proposed Animal ID and Tracing System
Fonterra’s Director of Milk Supply, Barry Harris, said the proposed introduction of a National Animal Identification and
Tracing (NAIT) system in 2011 would strengthen the credentials of New Zealand’s dairy exports.
“Any efforts to further demonstrate the quality of our products offshore through traceability and tracking is welcomed
by Fonterra.
“Given that 95 percent of our products are exported, it’s important we continue to safeguard our access to international
markets in the future by using the most up to date biosecurity technology.”
Mr Harris said that Fonterra had been involved in the joint industry-Government initiative from its inception.
“And we’re looking forward to working through the finer detail over the coming months with everyone involved.”
