3 News Launches New Website
3 NEWS launches its new website today as part of its strategy to increase its share in the on-line news market.
3News.co.nz will have greater emphasis on breaking news stories, greater category depth, flash video and the ability for users to contribute news video, audio, stories and comments on 3 NEWS content.
Siobhan McKenna, General Manager for NetWorks, MediaWorks’ New Media division, says the improvements to the site will give users much faster, more comprehensive information.
“TV3 has made a substantial investment in its web architecture. We've been working hard to ensure this site gives users a much faster service."
As well as investing in infrastructure, MediaWorks has also boosted its on-line editorial team. "This will allow us to take better advantage of the company's extensive media assets. Our editorial team now includes specialists in the areas of politics, sport, business, lifestyle/health and entertainment. When we add this to the award-winning 3 NEWS team, the RadioLIVE and NZPA content, as well as information from users I think we have an unrivalled offering,” says McKenna.
"Quality video is always going to be our advantage over other websites and we are proud to say that we break stories more often than other sites."
TV3’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings, says the new website is an important step forward for 3 NEWS.
"We dominate our target market in terms of our traditional broadcast product but we know we need to have an equally high quality on-line product. The news site is a major step forward and helps us achieve our aim of becoming New Zealand's foremost continuously operating news service. As soon as we get a break on a story or video from the scene we put it straight onto 3News.co.nz. If you’re first with breaking news it allows you to take control of the story and win viewers on-line and on-air."
