Telecom Launches Free Security For Broadband Customers & Signs New Modem Partnership
Telecom Broadband customers are set to benefit from two new initiatives which will provide an enhanced and safer online
experience.
From this week Telecom residential Broadband and Dial-Up customers can download a free Telecom Security Suite package
(per account) to help guard their home computer against online risks such as viruses, spyware and hackers. At a retail
value of $7.95 a month per licence, this suite is worth $95.40 over a year.
The package is from leading security provider McAfee and includes a firewall, anti-virus scanner and identity
protection, as well as parental tools to help protect children from harmful content.
“Consumer internet users are increasingly concerned about online threats such as viruses, identity theft and hackers,”
says Telecom GM Broadband Ralph Brayham.
“Providing a free, comprehensive, easy to install security package will ensure our customers can enjoy the Internet with
less worry about online nasties.”
At the same time, Telecom is announcing a partnership with the largest modem and gateway provider in the world -
Thomson, which will make state of the art modems available to Telecom Broadband customers.
“The Thomson modems are compatible with ADSL2+ technology which is the latest generation of broadband technology,” says
Mr Brayham.
The new devices may also benefit users further away from a broadband cabinet or exchange where it is more difficult to
access good broadband performance.
The modems are also designed with smart remote diagnostic ability, meaning Telecom will be able to identify and resolve
issues remotely.
“We are delighted to be working with Thomson to bring our customers modem products that represent the latest in
technology and design,” says Mr Brayham.
“The new modems include a wired and wireless device and Thomson’s comprehensive roadmap for future broadband products
made them a natural choice for Telecom.”
Thomson operates in more than 30 countries and currently supplies broadband modems and gateways to BT, France Telecom,
AOL Europe, and Telefonica.
Mr Brayham says the new modem partnership and the free security initiative are both part of an ongoing programme of
activity to give Telecom’s broadband customers more value with their internet service.
