Business growth creates new management role for carpet business
Cavalier Corporation has appointed Colin McKenzie to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer for its broadloom carpet business. The role has responsibility for the manufacturing and sales operations of Cavalier Bremworth, Knightsbridge, Kimberley and EnCasa carpets in Australia and New Zealand, along with international broadloom sales. He will remain involved in other group-wide activities such as strategy reviews, policy and acquisition projects.
Managing Director of Cavalier Corporation, Wayne Chung, said the new appointment is a direct result of the increasing size and complexity of the corporation’s business in recent years and is designed to ensure a solid support structure is in place for future growth.
The move will allow Mr Chung to work more strategically with the company’s other businesses such as newly acquired subsidiary Norman Ellison. Australian-based modular carpet business Ontera and the company’s wool scouring and procurement businesses remain as direct reports to Mr Chung.
Colin McKenzie is an internal appointment, having been with the company for more than five years, initially as GM Manufacturing and for the last two years as GM Group Operations.
Prior to joining Cavalier Bremworth he was General Manager for Christchurch based technology and electronics business PDL Industries and General Manager of Taranaki-based Pastoral Foods, a $120m food manufacturer and exporter.
His earlier career focused on the textile industry, spanning on-farm production and brokering, operations, international marketing, commercialisation of technologies and technology transfer, research and development. During this time he held a number of senior management role in textile companies as well as several secondments to the UK and Europe.
