More fuel price rises. What can drivers do?
On the back of yesterday's latest fuel price news and aiming to highlight the ways that every New Zealander can conserve
fuel and keep their costs down, the Hyundai Bledisloe Fuel Economy Run will start in Christchurch tomorrow morning.
Driving up the country to Fieldays at Mystery Creek on just one tank of gas, former Bathurst racer Hans Tholstrup and
motoring journalist, Rob Maetzig will try and outdo each other on fuel conservation by using driving techniques that
every New Zealander can apply to their own driving.
The Hyundai Bledisloe Fuel Economy Run will start at Gary Cockram Hyundai, corner Tuam and Durham Streets in
Christchurch at 7am on Tuesday 10th June.
The run will conclude at the Hyundai site M13 and M15 at Fieldays, Mystery Creek, Hamilton

Former All Black Scott Robertson will be on hand to kick start the Hyundai Bledisloe Fuel Economy Run in Christchurch
tomorrow morning.
Indulging in some healthy trans-Tasman rivalry in the new diesel Sonata's, Australian adventurer Hans Tholstrup will
take on our very own Rob Maetzig in a fuel conserving race across New Zealand.
>From their Tuesday morning start the eco drivers are expected to pull into the Hyundai tent at Fieldays, Mystery
Creek the following lunchtime – just in time to help launch the new facelift Sonata, and on just one tank of fuel.
The pair will be following the AA Energywise Rally rules and the challenge has been overseen by the AA to ensure its
credibility.
"There are a lot of fuel economy runs being done that just don't relate to the public" says Jack Biddle, AA Technical
Advice Manager.
"We've worked closely with Hyundai on this to ensure that the results they produce will be the kind of results any
Sonata customer can expect. The drivers will be expected to adhere to the conditions of the day and make their
destinations in the AA suggested times."
The factory fuel economy litres/100km figures to beat are tough with the facelift Sonata 2.0 CRDi M6 at a miserly 6.0
litres/100km. The previous 2007 model diesel Sonata last year was 7.3 litres per 100km for its combined factory fuel
economy. This was then lowered to 6.0 in a fuel economy run last year, a fuel saving of 17.8%.
"With fuel prices consistently on the rise we're keen to know just how economical the new Sonata will be, and what
better way to do it than with an Australia vs. New Zealand competition?" says Philip Eustace, Executive Director Hyundai
Motors New Zealand.
"I know both drivers will be very competitive but at the end of the day it's about getting fuel economy results that our
customers can understand and expect to achieve when they drive."
As for the winner, it wouldn't be a proper Bledisloe challenge without a cup so they will be presented with the first
official Hyundai Bledisloe Economy Fuel Run cup - and maintain gloating rights for at least a year.
