Fairfax Media Delivers ‘Complete’ Business News Service
businessday.co.nz added to Fairfax Media’s business news services
Fairfax Media has today launched the first, national online news site devoted exclusively to business and economic news.
businessday.co.nz will operate from a dedicated newsroom in Auckland.
In addition to its own assigned reporting team, it will take news feeds from local sources including Fairfax Media’s Business Day newspaper bureau, the Independent, stuff.co.nz; and international sources such as the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Age, and Fairfax Media’s Australian businessday online site.
David Gadd, Fairfax Media’s Managing Editor – Business, said the new service would be New Zealand’s most comprehensive business news source.
“Business news is the lifeblood of economic activity, and for the first time people will be able to get the full picture of what is happening, as it happens, from one source,” said Gadd.
“businessday.co.nz will transform the way we obtain our business news, and is a demonstration of the capability and benefits available from online communication.
“Business news is about being factual, time critical and relevant, and that is what businessday.co.nz will deliver by constantly updating breaking news and information to its readers.
“As well as being there for instant access and review, the online service will send alerts to customers when news relevant to them is breaking.
“As a specialist site, businessday.co.nz will complete the circle by closing the one gap that exists in the delivery of business news.
“Our newspapers provide news up to publishing time and analysis of that news. Stuff.co.nz provides top line stories, our Sundays look at the effect business issues have on readers, our nzx.com feed has a public company and managed fund focus while The Independent breaks major news stories and drills into issues, putting what has occurred and what is planned into context.
“businessday.co.nz will cover news as it happens, and will segment business news by sectors such as agriculture, property, local and the world.
“Our coverage of Australian business news will be the most comprehensive available in New Zealand.
“Through businessday.co.nz Fairfax Media is offering limitless coverage, and will also be moving into audio and video interviews, and video coverage of business related events.”
Gadd said that a feature of the new service would be a strong line up of business commentators, selected on the basis of their sector expertise, and also drawn from the right, centre and left of economic thinking.
“businessday.co.nz will look to inform, challenge and present different points of view,” said Gadd.
“It will provide the complete business news service.”
