“Quiet achiever” inducted into Harcourts Hall of Fame
4 June 2008 - Successful and highly-respected Harcourts business owner Peter Greene has been inducted into the Harcourts
Hall of Fame, an honour bestowed on just a select few who have made a significant contribution to the growth and success
of the Harcourts brand.
Managing Director and co-owner of the Christchurch-based Harcourts Grenadier Real Estate Ltd, Mr Greene was inducted
into the exclusive group at a black-tie awards dinner in Christchurch last week at which Harcourts’ top individuals and
offices were also announced.
Only the 11th member of the Harcourts Hall of Fame, Mr Greene is a “quiet achiever” who brought his first property at
the age of 19 and has been involved in real estate ever since - gaining his industry qualifications in the mid-80s and
joining Harcourts in 1990 after being head-hunted by another member of the Harcourts Hall of Fame, Christchurch real
estate legend Robert McCormack, now Peter’s partner in the 10-office Grenadier group.
Described by Harcourts International Executive Director Paul Wright in an introductory speech as having one of the best
reputations in the business, Mr Greene has moved through the ranks at Harcourts since he joined the group. Originally a
successful sales consultant he progressed to branch manager before becoming a co-owner in the then two-office Harcourts
Grenadier group, which he has since helped build into the large and dominant force it is in Canterbury and the West
Coast today, boasting some of Harcourts’ top sales consultants and teams.
“A strong advocate for Harcourts and an early adopter of the group’s leading-edge technology, systems and training,
Peter is a phenomenal businessperson and a great leader and manager who is hugely loyal to his team and to Harcourts,
and always willing to do things that will benefit the wider group,” Mr Wright says.
“Husband of Rosie and a father of four, Peter is professional, personable, hard-working, focused, dependable and
organised. Both within Harcourts and externally he’s known as a ‘go to’ man who gets things done and he is much admired
for being adept at both strategic and tactical, detail level.”
Not only have Mr Greene’s business nous and people skills helped in the growth and success of a leading Harcourts
franchise, they have also benefited the wider Harcourts Group, Mr Wright says.
“Despite his work, family and personal commitments Peter always puts time and effort into supporting the Group,
including through participating on panels and in workshops at our annual conference and Business Development Workshop
where has been only too willing to share his insights and the keys to his success,” Mr Wright says.
“As an example of the esteem in which he is held, he was one of a small number of people voted onto the inaugural
Harcourts Franchise Council, a governing body which he served on admirably.
“In addition, to assist Harcourts’ growth he’s undertaken numerous speaking engagements and run many workshops in
Australia over the years and helped us to bring on board people from other brands as well, including hosting potential
international partners. On all of these occasions he has personified Harcourts at its very best.”
Commenting on his induction to Harcourts prestigious Hall of Fame, Mr Greene says he was both surprised and delighted by
the honour.
“When they called out my name I was totally surprised and when my family all came out on stage it was great. I was
pretty stoked really.”
Mr Greene says to be recognised for what he has done for the Harcourts Group as a whole, not just for the Harcourts
Grenadier franchise is a great honour.
“I’ve always felt it’s nice to be part of something bigger than just myself, my family and my own business, but to be
recognised for that is really special and pretty emotional actually. It’s just an amazing honour.”
