Australasian Gaming Expo to showcase the latest industry trends
Sydney, Australia – 30 May, 2008: The Australasian Gaming Expo, held August 24-26 2008, is shaping up to be one of the most successful in its 18 year history, with record registrations to date for the conference and over 180 exhibitors showcasing their products at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Competition for the entertainment dollar and the tightening economy are just a few factors influencing gaming operators in their purchasing decisions. So, expect to see some fabulous new products at this year’s Australasian Gaming Expo (AGE), in addition to innovations that we haven’t seen before,” said Ross Ferrar, Executive Officer of the Australasian Gaming Machine Manufacturers Association (AGMMA), and organisers of the annual AGE www.AustGamingExpo.com.
There will be a plethora of cutting-edge products and services to the gaming, hospitality and entertainment industry, including gaming machines and table games, gaming systems, cash handling equipment, security and surveillance, interior design and fit out, signage and displays.
The major gaming machine manufacturers have each booked large exhibit spaces at the AGE, and are expected to use this year’s event to release a number of new games – and perhaps a few technology surprises.
A sign of the gaming technology and innovation emanating from Australia is reflected in the exports generated from our gaming machine manufacturers.
“The original local mainstream manufacturers now operate worldwide – companies originally set up in Australia now generate more revenue internationally than domestically,” explained Mr Ferrar.
“There’s now around 200,000 gaming machines in Australia – slightly less than 2.4% of the world’s total – and governments collect around AU$6 billion annually from an adult population of 15.6 million.”
In addition to the trade show, there are also plentiful information opportunities at the AGE gaming conference, which is held each day of the show from early morning until mid afternoon.
Featuring leading industry experts and feature speakers, the conference is free of charge to those in the gaming industry, and offers separately bookable sessions. Delegates will learn about topics including innovation and efficiencies on the gaming floor, regional and global industry trends, design and corporate social responsibility, and gaming technology challenges and solutions.

Money Controls
Money Controls will be demonstrating a number of money-handling products on Stand 249, including bill and ticket acceptors, hoppers, coin acceptors and payment integration modules. And it’s this technology that ensures Ardac Elite detects all known frauds.
Ardac Elite’s imaging also makes it the ideal acceptor for Server Based Gaming and the company is currently working on a number of software features to enable operators to make the most of Ardac Elite’s advanced technology and add value to their SBG customer interface. One such example is sending a scanned image of barcode tickets to back-office systems for data storage of every ticket validated. Scanned note images could also be instantly transmitted to back-office systems.
The display on a PDA of a full-colour image of the last-note inserted is also sure to impress visitors. Now, disputes can be resolved in seconds, with no need to access the cashbox: all floor staff need do is connect a PDA to the USB socket on the front of Ardac Elite for instant proof of what note was inserted last.
Odour Control Systems
Imagine entering a five star hotel to the pleasant aroma of White Hyacinth, or the refreshing aroma of Pink Grapefruit in a retail outlet. Imagine a club experience where a fragrance reminiscent of expensive aftershave or perfume eliminates stale beer and body odours, or a conference where delegates remain alert thanks to citrus based scents that improve concentration.
Smell is the most powerful memory trigger and research confirms positive effects of aroma on consumer behaviour. Happy, relaxed customers are inclined to stay longer and spend more.
Forward-thinking businesses are now seeking to provide memorable experiences through ambient scenting which enhances indoor air quality and complements visual themes, products and activities.
Odour Control Systems (OCS), through its Sensaroma division, is sole Australian distributor of Prolitec products, known worldwide for their expertise in ambient scenting and sophisticated air treatment technology.

Reed Constructions
The Hospitality Division of Reed Constructions Australia will again exhibit at the Australasian Gaming Expo. Reed’s experts will be on duty for all three days at our stand #254 to assist hospitality operators with information on how to move forward with their alterations and modernisation of club facilities along with general information on any building works you may require.
Reed has recently completed two hospitality projects in the New South Wales Hunter Region which were constructed concurrently - the Adamstown RSL Club and the Swansea RSL Club.
Upon entering the Adamstown RSL Club, members and guests are now welcomed in a modern new reception area. The strategic placement of large windows throughout the club opens up internal areas and enhances the atmosphere. The incorporation of timber joinery features and a rich warm colour scheme also creates a contemporary feel for a club.
The Swansea RSL Club’s proximity to a major waterway involved careful planning. The new extension houses a larger administration area, bar and members lounge, with Reed also modernising the building’s exterior façade and reception area to marry with the stylish internal upgrade.
Task Retail Technology
Task Retail Technology Pty Ltd specialized in Point of Sale software development.
They recently won the tender to supply a turn-key Point of Sale system for STC's two Sydney metropolitan racetracks, Rosehill Gardens and Canterbury Park. The tender called for a state of the art POS system to manage food and beverage sales across both venues, including the new $AUS30M “Grand Pavilion” development at Rosehill.
The Xchangexec suite will be deployed across approximately 100 NCR RealPOS21 integrated retail terminals and Back of House. Task Retail beat off stiff opposition from a short list of six vendors, including international corporations such as the IBM/Infogenesis consortium and Micros, Task winning all selection categories.
“We are very proud to have been chosen. It is testament to the expertise of our software engineering team, who have implemented some exciting innovations at the STC, including our unique multi screen, Touch LCD Kitchen Video/Bump system, and Integrated Electronic LCD Menu Boards – all of which can driven by a single POS terminal. To enhance security and staff accountability, STC have also implemented Radio Frequency Clerk Log On Wristbands and Dual Cash Drawers on all terminals,” said Mr Kym Houden, Managing Director, Task Retail Technology.
