New Zealand Communication Appoints CEO
Third Mobile Phone Operator Takes Another Step Towards NZ Launch
New Zealand Communication has appointed Singapore based Mike Reynolds as its Chief Executive Officer, and he will be
relocating to Auckland next month.
Chairman Bill Osborne said New Zealand Communications had conducted a world-wide search for a telecommunications
executive with the expertise to take the mobile phone company from its current infrastructure building phase to offering
the public a full range of mobile services.
“Mike Reynolds has today resigned as President of StarHub, Singapore’s second largest info-communication company
offering fixed, cable, mobile and internet services to take up this leadership role in New Zealand,” said Osborne.
“At StarHub he was responsible for operational plans and the day-to-day execution of those plans.
“Reynolds appointment is a major milestone as we progressively build towards entering the market as this country’s third
mobile phone operator.
“We are one by one ticking off the major boxes, and we anticipate Reynolds will move rapidly to confirm other key
appointments in coming months.
“Reynolds has a broad skill base ranging across marketing, business development and day-to-day operational management.
It is operational, hands on experience that will serve him well in the New Zealand market.
“With the recent addition of Trilogy International Partners as a cornerstone shareholder, New Zealand Communication is
now on a countdown to a public launch date.”
Reynolds joined StarHub in 2001 from BellSouth China, where he was CEO and President.
Initially appointed by StarHub as a Senior Vice President in charge of Business Markets, he became Head of Integrated
Products and Marketing in 2004, and President earlier this year.
Reynolds holds a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business from the University of Georgia, USA.
New Zealand Communication currently employs more than 120 people, and is building cell phone towers in Auckland,
Wellington and Christchurch, and has a roaming agreement in place with Vodafone.
