Mitchell And Dyer - We are liars

We are liars.
We lied to family, friends, co-workers, colleagues, future employers and future employees.
Since the 12th of May, we have pretended to be misogynist, racist, homophobic alcoholics.
We lied to the CEO and most of the staff of Draftfcb - the agency that we still work for (hopefully).
We lied to ourselves by convincing each other that we liked cigars and scotch.
We requested only straight male art directors, expecting complaints; but instead we received dozens of applications.
We asked potential secretaries for photos and proof that they were under 21 - and horrifyingly, they obliged in hordes.
Our billboard opposite Auckland's premiere gay bar declared "We're here, we're not queer - Get used to it." and we got only admiring wolf whistles.
Oh yeah, that billboard was a lie too.
We expected to get chased out of town for being so horrifically politically incorrect.
Instead we got support from creatives, television departments, post-production houses, business mentors, international media, PR firms, marketing companies, suits, creative directors and CEOs, all offering their support.
We received dozens of books and were approached enthusiastically by magazines and newspapers.
We got offers from freelancers and we had freelance work offered to us.
If anyone is interested in whether their employees are looking to explore greener pastures, our email vault can be opened up for a price.
Bringing back the ‘glory days’ of advertising’? When ethics in the workplace, sexual harassment officers, smoke-free environments, equal opportunities and ethnic diversity are just figments of the imagination.
We were deliberately sexist, racist and homophobic and no one in the NZ public even batted an eyelid - it’s a comment on NZ society that maybe we haven’t changed as much as we thought. Or maybe everyone took the campaign with the irony it was intended.
The only way to see the golden age of advertising is by watching Mad Men the Golden Globe award winning Drama about advertising in the 60s, coming soon to Prime. And you think advertising lies now…
Unless, of course, you're a client with a nice big budget. In which case, let's do lunch.
We'll bring the cigars, you bring the chequebook.
