MIAG holds inaugural AGM
28 May 2008 - After a very successful 3 days of meetings in the North Island, MIAG held its inaugural AGM at Queenstown
on Saturday 24th May. The North Island MIAG meetings received a huge groundswell of interest with over 500 farmers
indicating support.
MIAG are keen to secure a farmer controlled market led company that delivers the highest possible returns to farmer
shareholders through meaningful consolidation within the industry.
There were 28 delegates present at the AGM from throughout New Zealand representing a wide range of farm types and
sizes. An Executive Committee was formed including Keith Milne (Chairman), John Gregan (Spokesperson), Mark Morrow & Stephen Cullen representing the South Island. Dan Jex-Blake (Vice-Chairman) & John Taylor are to represent the North Island with an additional 2 members to be elected by local farmers. Jamie
Falloon (Wairarapa) has been appointed Treasurer and Anne Liardet (Otago) Secretary.
The huge groundswell of support stems from recognition by farmers that the top down initiatives have failed (eg: PWC
report and the Mega Merger concept), and that grass root farmers must initiate and drive industry change or risk a
re-engineered status quo model being imposed upon them.
Speakers at the conference included Leon Black (Meat & Wool NZ) and Stuart Natrass (Fonterra Director and Meat Industry Task Force member).
MIAG Chair Keith Milne said “We are now a truly effective New Zealand wide organisation with a formal structure and much
stronger voice”.
MIAG members continue to collect authorizations calling for a Special General Meeting of Alliance and PPCS to help drive
Industry Consolidation.
