Wyndham Estate takes gold at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles
The number one Shiraz sold in New Zealand, Wyndham Estate BIN 555 Shiraz continues to cement its award-winning
reputation. The 2005 vintage was honoured with a ‘Great Gold’ Medal at one of Europe’s largest wine competitions, the
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2008, which took place in Bordeaux at the end of April 2008.
Two other Wyndham Estate wines available in New Zealand, excelled in the competition; the 2005 vintage BIN 444 Cabernet
Sauvignon and 2006 vintage BIN 999 Merlot being awarded Silver medals.
A delighted Wyndham Estate Winemaker Tony Hooper said “the awards are a testament to the high quality and intensity of
fruit flavour that has been achieved in the BIN range.”
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is a forerunner in the field of sensory evaluation. In order to guarantee to producers
a maximum of rigour, effectiveness and equity in the attribution of medals, they have for several years collaborated
with the Statistical Institute of the University of Louvain to analyse and optimize the reliability of the results by
identifying some principal distortions. A procedure of standardization makes it possible to achieve this goal while
preserving diversity and the appreciation of the experts’ palates.
