@ web one - A Carbon Neutral Business
The team at @web one are pleased to announce that this year we are operating and driving on a carbon neutral basis. We
have undertaken a three step process in order to achieve this status; measurement of our emissions, strategies for the
reduction of our emissions, and the offsetting of any unavoidable emissions.
Although we have been aware of the increasing levels of concern about climate change and global warming for some time,
it wasn’t until we undertook website development for Nelson based company Offset the Rest that we began to fully
understand our impact on the environment and the positive steps we could take to reduce our carbon footprint.
With the help of the team at Offset the Rest we have been able to implement initiatives to reduce energy consumption –
and the good news is this can actually save us money by reducing our operating costs. We have been focusing on such
things as utilising more natural light, opening windows instead of turning on the air conditioning, turning off any
equipment not in use, and making sure our employees follow our recycling policy.
Offset the Rest undertook measurement of our carbon dioxide emissions after obtaining information from us regarding our
annual power consumption, distances travelled, and types of vehicles used. We then purchased an equivalent tonnage of
carbon offsets from Offset the Rest, which balances our emissions for the next twelve months, and makes @ web one a
carbon neutral company. We intend to maintain this status by undertaking this exercise on an annual basis, and as we
realise the benefits of our reductions strategies, we expect our carbon footprint to be even smaller over the coming
years.
The carbon credits we purchased through Offset the Rest are generated by Gold Standard renewable energy projects that
have sustainable development benefits. Offset the Rest is focused changing the world’s unhealthy relationship with
fossil fuels, which is why they choose to invest in renewable energy projects that contribute to a long term solution to
global warming and have a positive impact on the local economy in which they are situated.
Here at @ web one, we want to send a positive message to our customers – we are an environmentally responsible
organisation, and we do care about the environment we all live and work in. Being carbon neutral is something we are
proud of.
