Fulmonti Streaks In For Stakes Win
Karaka Premier Sale graduate Fulmonti (Montjeu x Grosvenor's Pride by Grosvenor) recorded his first stakes win on Saturday taking the Group 3 Chairman's Handicap (2020m) at Doomben.
In the hands of Ric McMahon, the five-year-old gelding streaked down the outside to pick off Diamondsondinside who finished a half-length back in second, while Legendary Man was a further length back in third.
Fulmonti is the fifth New Zealand-bred horse in a row to win the race including Art Success who went on to take the Brisbane Cup (2400m) in 2006, and the Richard Yuill-trained Mandlea with a race record last year.
Fulmonti has collected A$304,000 in prize money with seven wins and 12 placings to his credit. Trainer Chris Jordan has set his sights on the Group 2 BTC Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm on Monday 9 June as his next target.
Monovale Farm proprietor Paul Smithies bred Fulmonti and sold him through Mapperley Stud's 2004 Karaka Premier Sale draft for NZ$100,000 to New Zealand Bloodstock as agent. Smithies also bred five-time Group 1 winner Sir Slick (Volksraad).
The unraced Grosvenor's Pride has produced six winners including the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes winner Pride Of The Class (Volksraad).
