Auckland tops screen production expenditure
The total gross revenue for the New Zealand screen industry for 2007 was $2,447 million, a decrease of 5.2 percent from the 2006 figure of $2,581 million, Statistics New Zealand said today. Regional expenditure was collected from screen production companies for the first time in 2007. Of the total screen production company expenditure ($658 million), 67.2 percent was spent in the Auckland region.
Television broadcasting was the most significant sector, accounting for $1,081 million, a slight increase when compared with the 2006 figure of $1,071 million. The production and post-production sector recorded revenue of $1,046 million, a decrease of 14.7 percent from the 2006 figure of $1,226 million.
Gross revenue received by screen production companies in the 2007 financial year was $712 million compared with $813 million in 2006, a 12.5 percent decrease. New Zealand revenue contribution to the screen production sector increased by 2.7 percent to $414 million.
The Screen Industry Survey has been run annually since 2005. Further results will be released in August 2008 in the Screen Industry in New Zealand: 2006/07 report.
