The Rugby Superstars cards in Bluebird potato chips are the latest in a long line of consumer promotions that have been a part of Bluebird marketing programs for many years. This time we have chosen to associate our brand with the Super XIV teams because of the broad appeal of rugby in New Zealand.
These rugby cards add to the fun and enjoyment of our snacks. They are a short term competitive marketing strategy designed to encourage a person to select one brand of snackfood over another.
Snacks, in moderation, can add to the enjoyment of a healthy diet. A healthy lifestyle means finding a balance between the calories consumed and the calories burned.
Bluebird Foods pays careful attention to the way its products are advertised and marketed. We adhere to the intent and content of the Advertising Standards Authority Codes for both food and children. We do not target our advertising to people under 14.
The promotion has been set up so that it does not encourage excess consumption. The cards are available in all packs, not just some, and the promotion has run for almost three months, allowing consumers plenty of time to collect and swap cards.
The special manufacturing run of these promotional packs has now been completed and television advertising has finished. Packs containing Rugby Superstars cards will be available through retail stores for a few more weeks until sold out.
