More than 6000 New Zealanders attended the OZTalk Travel Expo in Auckland on Sunday 27 April 2008, and discovered plenty
of new and exciting Australian travel experiences and a fantastic entertainment line-up. Visitors were also surprised
with a special appearance by renowned ‘wildlife warrior’ and Aussie icon, Terri Irwin.
Terri Irwin was present at OZTalk Travel Expo to address media as part of her involvement for G’Day NZ Australia Week
2008.
“Australia and New Zealand have traditionally shared very close links, yet there are things that set us apart and make
us unique – Australia’s wildlife experience being one of them,” said Terri Irwin. “I am delighted to be a part of this
celebration of mateship between our two countries,” she added.
Tourism Australia’s Regional Manager, Vito Anzelmi, said Terri Irwin’s passion for the country’s wildlife and
environment makes her a fantastic ambassador for Australia.
“We are very excited about Terri Irwin’s involvement with G’Day NZ Australia Week 2008 and confident that her
experiences of interacting with Australia’s unique natural heritage will inspire many Kiwis to make the trip across the
Tasman.”
OZTalk Travel Expo featured 135 Australian tourism exhibitors, who showcased a large variety of Australian travel
experiences. From travelling through Australia’s vast outback, experiencing amazing nature and Aboriginal culture,
visiting Australia’s spectacular coastline, to tempting food and wine, vibrant Australian cities and inspiring journeys,
OZTalk Travel Expo offered something for every traveller.
OZTalk Travel Expo was the perfect opportunity to plan a trip across the Tasman, with special holiday deals offered by
Holiday Shoppe and United Travel. Visitors also had an opportunity to win a trip for two to experience Australia’s
vibrant city culture in Sydney, including an exclusive backstage tour and VIP tickets to Billy Elliot the Musical.
On stage Dorothy the Dinosaur’s Dance Party and Chrissy’s Island Family entertained young and old alike, with a
performance from Billy Elliot the Musical delighting all. Descendance, an Aboriginal dance troupe performed throughout
the day, while Roo’d, seven foot Kangaroos bouncing on stilts, fascinated the crowds.
OZTalk Travel Expo is presented by Tourism Australia, Tourism New South Wales, Tourism Northern Territory, Tourism
Queensland, South Australian Tourism Commission, Tourism Tasmania, Tourism Victoria and Tourism Western Australia as
part of the G’Day NZ Australia Week 2008.
