Auckland City Hotel – Hobson St has officially opened its doors today, with a commitment to environmentally-conscious travellers who care about their carbon footprint.
The Auckland City Hotel – Hobson St uses compact energy efficient fluorescent lights in all its corridors and rooms, with 50 per cent of the corridor lights activated by motion sensors and 1000 energy saving light bulbs installed throughout the Hotel. Auckland City Hotel – Hobson St is not air conditioned and asks that guests request a heating or cooling unit as desired.
Biodegradable corn starch bags and bins are used in all the Hotel kitchens. Known as BioBags, they represent the world’s largest brand of 100 per cent biodegradable and 100 per cent compostable bags and films. Hotel staff are also briefed on an internal recycling scheme for rubbish and mini bars are filled only as required at the request of guests, keeping fridges empty where possible to reduce power usage.
Continuing its environmentally-friendly focus, Auckland City Hotel – Hobson St plans to reduce the potential for carbon emissions by offering guests the opportunity to do their sightseeing by hiring Hotel bikes rather than using public transport.
Recyclable amenities such as shampoo and bath gel containers are also available to guests, along with eco-friendly sanitation products, an environmentally-friendly card placed in the bathrooms for towel re-usage, key card power activation in rooms and educational information for guests in the form of the NZ Eco-Wise Travel Guide.
