Tuppy’s had his for 40 years, what about you?
Former All Black and farmer Tuppy Diack thinks it may be time he got a new pair of gumboots. He’s not sure as his Red Band Gumboots are only just starting to fall apart and probably still have few years left in them.
After all, he’s only had his pair for over 40 years.
Like Tuppy, thousands of Kiwis own a pair of Red Band Gumboots. They have gained iconic status even earning an appearance at New Zealand Fashion Week.
This year Red Band Gumboots celebrate 50 years of being New Zealand’s favourite short gumboot. The first pair rolled off the production line at Skellerup’s Woolston factory in Christchurch and into the lives of Kiwi’s around the country on 21 October, 1958.
Skellerup would love to hear from you if you have a story about your favourite pair of Red Bands.
What do they mean to you and are they related to an unforgettable incident in your life? Your story doesn’t’ have to be perfect, grammatically correct or even poetic, you just have to be happy to share it with us.
You can send your Red Band story to Kim Triegaardt at Convergence Communications & Marketing, P O Box 125, Christchurch or email kim[at]conv.co.nz. You can also phone on (03) 365 0081.
