Cash prizes up for grabs on new NZ-based social network website
A new homegrown New Zealand-based social network website, WotsCool, is inspiring members to create interesting and original profiles by offering a cash prize for the most popular each month and the first 300 people to join will compete for a minimum of $2000.
Director and site developer of www.wotscool.co.nz Peter Bull says: "Members can use their creative and inventive talents to compete for attention from the WotsCool community.
"The best profile will get the most votes and win money."
As well as a monthly cash prize, Wotscool includes all the features of mainstream social network communities keeping in touch with friends, meeting new people, sharing blogs, forums, online chat, sharing photos, and links to videos and content on other websites.
Members who do not want to compete for the monthly cash prize can access the website for free; those who want to be in with a chance to win the prize money pay $8 a month, either by text on their mobile phone or by credit card.
The first 300 people to register will get a free upgrade to full membership and a chance to win the first cash prize. As WotsCool grows, the monthly prize will increase.
The site, which launched this month, operates a points system - members can earn points when another member votes for their profile, or when they vote for someone else. They also earn points for other activities on the site, such as posting a comment or forum topic, writing a web log, uploading a photo gallery, or inviting others to join. In addition, a cash prize of $100 is given each month to the member whose invitations to friends and contacts during the month results in the largest number of new WotsCool users signing up.
"As our membership grows, we will be looking at a significant amount of money up for grabs each month," says Peter. "Even with only a relatively small number of members, the cash prize could reach thousands of dollars."
In addition to attracting members by offering a chance to win money, the new online community also expects to appeal to users by being advert-free.
Says Peter Bull: "I was fed-up with being subjected to advertising and pop-ups on mainstream social networking websites. I thought there should be an option for people to interact with others online without being pestered - and for heavy users to be rewarded for all their on-line time."
WotsCool is "100 per cent Kiwi". Developed and owned by Peter Bull, who has worked as a network engineer in Auckland, London and New York, the site is designed as a local response to the massive growth of social network sites.
"So many people are spending a lot of time looking at these websites they have become the way the next generation communicates with each other," he says.
By providing a local option, with the benefit of cash prizes for the more pro-active and creative members who attract the attention of other online users, Peter can evolve the website further in response to feedback.
"It has been a lot of fun getting this far," says Peter. "And there is huge scope to develop new features to suit our community in the future."
