Newmarket signs fashion contract with Helen Clarke
The Fashion Capital of New Zealand is delighted to announce an unprecedented contract to dress, accessorise, and style
Prime Minister Rt Hon Helen Clarke for the 2008 election campaign. The contract is believed to have a retail value of up
to 1/4 million dollars.
“This is great news for Newmarket and for the Prime Minister. We are confident with this huge investment she will go
into this year’s election with a big advantage. She will have the country spellbound as she showcases designs from
leading New Zealand and international fashion houses, a new hair style and make up,” said head of the Newmarket Business
Association Cameron Brewer.
“In the lead up to the election expect to see the Prime Minister trying a few things we wouldn’t normally see. The brief
we’ve had from her campaign team is that this year it’s all or nothing. They want to move away from her straight up and
down business suits. At times they want to see a little more glamour while at other times they want a softer look which
can be achieved with some clever layering and texturing.
“We are so excited by this opportunity and she has agreed to put her complete confidence in the hands of our stylists
and designers. She will be a great clothes horse. Television is everything in modern day politics and with high
definition a reality, our leaders just have to work that much more to convince the country of not only their experience
and ability, but their sense of style. If France is excited about Carla Bruni, New Zealanders will soon be beaming with
pride,” said Mr Brewer.
