Mac's Wins at the 2008 Australian International Beer Awards
Up against 1084 entries from 217 breweries across 42 countries, Mac's
Brewery has won two highly acclaimed champion trophies and gold and silver at last night's 2008 Australian International
Beer Awards (AIBA) in Melbourne.
Taking the top awards were Mac's Hop Rocker, winning the trophy for Champion Lager and Mac's Sassy Red sharing the win
for the champion ale, an impressive addition to a growing list of accolades for both of these beers. Other winners on
the night included Mac's Great White, which received a gold medal in the Belgian-style Witbiers Draught class. Gold
medals are awarded to an outstanding beer that displays the correct balance of taste, aroma and appearance appropriate
for the style and excellent technical merit. Mac's Gold, Mac's Spring Tide, Mac's Sun Dance and Mac's Black Mac were all
awarded silver medals in their own class.
"Winning and being recognised at AIBA is a real tribute to the hard working and innovative Mac's brewing team who have
really gone the extra mile to make every Mac's beer special," says Mac's marketing manager, Kerry Wheeler.
"The AIBA's always prove a great success for the Mac's range, last year was a huge achievement with Mac's gaining an
award for every beer entered, this year we've come away even better, we're extremely pleased with the results."
The Australian International Beer Awards is the pre-eminent showcase for premium beer and brewing excellence in the Asia
Pacific Region. AIBA is considered the second largest beer awards in the world based on the number of entrants in this
fine beer competition.
The judging panel for the awards featured over 30 judges, both local and international including three Guest
International Judges from Romania, Ireland and the Netherlands.
