Trans-Tasman Rivalry At The Very Gold Coast Corporate Golf Challenge
Join Long Drive champions John Noble from Gold Coast, Australia and Baden Waiwai from Wairoa, New Zealand at the
upcoming Very Gold Coast Corporate Golf Challenge for a fantastic display of friendly sporting rivalry.
Held on 24 April 2008 to celebrate G’Day NZ Australia Week, the Very Gold Coast Corporate Golf Challenge aims to bring
to life the true spirit of mateship between Australia and New Zealand.
The event celebrates everything the two countries have in common, while recognising the differences. Participants also
have the opportunity to win fantastic prizes, including a trip to the Gold Coast!
Teams will compete in a four man Aussie Ambrose style competition, with two Australians and two New Zealanders in each
team.
Tourism Australia Regional Manager, Vito Anzelmi, says the Very Gold Coast Corporate Golf Challenge provides a forum
within G’Day NZ Australia Week for business networking.
“There is nothing like a bit of sporting rivalry to bring out the spirit of mateship between Australia and New Zealand.
Designed to encourage conversations, participants have a chance to network while battling it out over 18 holes,” says Mr
Anzelmi.
Gold Coast Tourism’s Ben Pole is thrilled to support the event.
“The Gold Coast offers unique business tourism facilities all within a stones throw from 40 premier golf courses,” he
notes.
At the game’s conclusion players will enjoy a BBQ and prize giving, hosted by the face of SKY sport, Steve Mclvor.
A demonstration by Long Drive champions John Noble and Baden Waiwai will also help bring the spirit of mateship to life.
Baden Waiwai is one of New Zealand’s longest drivers and at 6ft 8” has natural advantages which help him drive a ball
over 383 metres.
From across the ditch, John Noble will represent Australia. When he’s not teaching golf, John competes on the
Australasian Long Drive Tour and in 2005 he won the Australasian Long Drive Tour Champion title.
John is now ranked in the top three long drivers in Australia and says he is looking forward to a bit of friendly
trans-Tasman competition.
“Baden won the cup for New Zealand last year so I’m hoping to get even and take it back to Australia this year.”
The Very Gold Coast Corporate Golf Challenge will be held from 10.00am – 6.30pm on Thursday 24 April at The Grange Golf
Club, 2 Grange Road, Papatoetoe, Auckland.

Commission, with Gold Coast Tourism Corporation as the naming sponsor for the event.
