Industry veteran to head Maersk Line’s NZ business
Julian Michael Bevis has been appointed to run Maersk Line’s New Zealand operations.
Julian, a 33-year-veteran of the container industry, has for the past two years headed Maersk’s Indian Line and Operations business. He previously held a number of senior management positions with P Nedlloyd, which was acquired by Maersk in 2005.
The appointment follows Maersk Line’s announcement late last year that it would be overhauling its organisational structure, reducing the number of global operating regions from 14 to 11.
Oceania Area Manager Soren Houman said Julian was the ideal person to guide the New Zealand operation through the change process, and brought with him a unique global perspective along with solid knowledge of New Zealand’s key trading partners in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.
“Julian’s broad operational and leadership experience will be a huge asset to Maersk Line’s New Zealand operation. His appointment reflects the importance Maersk keeps placing on our presence in New Zealand and our commitment to strengthening a soon-to-be self-sustained and independent Maersk New Zealand organisation, which – to an even larger degree – is able to react swiftly to meet the needs of the market.”
The organisational changes mean that Maersk New Zealand, previously part of the Oceania region managed out of Sydney, will from late this year be part of the newly-formed Asia-Pacific region, headquartered in Singapore.
“It gives the New Zealand team more operational flexibility, which will help them respond to their customers’ needs faster and more effectively,” Mr Houman said.
