Symantec Announces New Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac
Protects Mac Users Running Both Mac OS X Leopard and Windows with
Layered Vulnerability Protection and Antivirus
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), makers of Norton security software, today announced the new Norton AntiVirus™ Dual Protection for Mac®, featuring vulnerability protection technology and antivirus for Mac users running Boot Camp or Windows virtualisation software – programs that allow users to run both Mac OS X Leopard and Windows operating systems. This solution provides comprehensive protection from both Mac and Windows-based vulnerabilities and viruses. With this dual protection functionality, Mac users benefit by receiving both the number one selling Mac antivirus solution – Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac – and the award-winning antivirus and vulnerability protection of Norton AntiVirus 2008 for Windows.
Mac users who run dual operating systems can now have comprehensive security protection with automatic updates from Symantec’s leading global security network. Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac automatically detects and removes viruses, scans and cleans downloaded files and e-mail attachments, and incorporates discrete yet effective security alerts. In addition, Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac is designed to automatically update itself in the background, allowing users to conduct their online activities without interruption. With Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac, users get comprehensive protection for two operating systems in one convenient and cost-effective package.
“As the popularity of parallel operating systems increases, Mac users are at increased risk of vulnerabilities and viruses from threats targeted at both Macs and PCs. This is why an extra layer of security is needed – to ensure users are protected against both sets of threats,” said Rowan Trollope, senior vice president, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec Corp. “Norton AntiVirus with dual protection gives Mac users peace-of-mind as it silently protects them from both Leopard and Window’s-based attacks.”
Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac provides an extra layer of protection against attacks that target software vulnerabilities on Leopard and Windows operating systems. This product includes both vulnerability protection – which is new to Norton AntiVirus for Mac – and intrusion protection – included in Norton AntiVirus 2008 for Windows. These layers of protection prevent threats from infecting systems by blocking malware and viruses from installing when downloading pictures, music and software, and then deleting the threat.
Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac also includes performance and engine improvements to ensure better compatibility and less impact on system startup and resource usage, so users can safely continue their online activities without impacting their productivity.
Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network
Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac is backed by Symantec’s Global Intelligence Network, a worldwide network comprised of information security and operations specialists as well as Symantec’s global community of thousands of internet activity sensors. The Global Intelligence Network provides Symantec Security Response with an unparalleled, data-driven view of the entire security landscape.
