Kia Gives Away 1 Year’s Free Fuel
Kia is providing New Zealanders with a break from rising costs at the fuel pump by giving away free petrol or diesel for
their first 15,000 kilometres of motoring.
Those buying a new Kia car until the end of March will drive away with the equivalent of a year’s free fuel, based on
the consumption of the vehicle they purchase.
Announcing the offer, Kia Motors NZ General Manager Todd McDonald says the primary aim was to provide some relief to
fuel sticker-shocked motorists, following the recent spate of price increases, but also to enable them to get into new
and more fuel efficient vehicles.
Modern vehicles use latest technology to stretch each litre of fuel and can help make the family budget go further. The
exercise highlights just how fuel efficient many of the models in the Kia range are, he adds.
For instance, the Kia Cerato 1.6 diesel 4-door sedan sits in the middle of the company’s product range in terms of size
and performance, yet it is cheaper on fuel than the smallest Kia, the 1.1-litre petrol-powered Picanto. Over a year’s
average driving the Cerato diesel would use $955 worth of fuel, compared to the Picanto’s $1388. Coincidentally, the
7-seater Kia Carens people mover, powered by a 2-litre diesel engine and automatic transmission, also uses just $1388 in
fuel. However, the running costs for the diesel cars are subject to an additional $480 over that period because of Road
User Charges.
Mr McDonald adds: “There’s no doubt that the recent spate of fuel price rises has caused uncertainty in the minds of
people who have been considering a new car, to the point where they may even have put off their decision completely.
“Whilst that’s understandable, they may not be doing themselves any favours, since they could easily save money buying a
newer, more fuel efficient vehicle. And they don’t have to sacrifice space if they go for a diesel model like the Cerato
1.6 sedan or the Carens 2.0 7-seater.
“By offering a year’s free fuel we hope to encourage people to think about updating their vehicle to one that is more
fuel efficient and receive a bonus at the same.”
The free fuel offer will be available on every brand new Kia model until March 31 and even includes the company’s K2700
light truck, as well as its cars and SUVs. A brand new Kia is priced from just $16,990 for the Picanto city car.
All new Kia models include a 5-year or 100,000km warranty programme, free first service, free registration and a free
tank of fuel in the purchase price.
Kia has 21 new car showrooms strategically placed throughout the country, putting them close to where most New
Zealanders live.
