Fully Fledged Strikes $100,000 Carnival Sale Bonus
The countdown to this year's Karaka Carnival Sale kicked off in style on Saturday, with a $100,000 bonus cheque made out
to the first graduate of last year's Sale past the post in the New Zealand Bloodstock Carnival Sale Bonus 2YO (1200m) at
Ellerslie.
With race winner Sanjura (Sandtrap x La Jura by Kingdom Bay) not eligible for the bonus, it was second placegetter Fully
Fledged (Align x Fledged by Bluebird) finishing three-quarters of a length behind who took home the $100,000.
Having his fourth race-day start, Fully Fledged is beginning to redeem himself after quashing his chances of a start in
the Karaka Million when he spectacularly jumped the rail down the home straight in the Group 2 Ford Wakefield Challenge
Stakes.
Purchased at the Sale by Alistair Sutherland from Curraghmore Stud for $38,000, Sutherland shares the $100,000 bonus
with part-owners Peter Walker and Tony Timpson, and Fully Fledged's owner at the time of sale, Jim Piper.
Race winner Sanjura, trained by Chris and Richard Otto, provided the new training partnership with their first win.
Sanjura was purchased from the 2007 Festival Sale by KSM Livestock for $27,000, with KSM Livestock principal Shane
Tuckey sharing in the ownership with his trainers.
The 2008 Carnival Yearling Sale is set to take place this Friday (7 March) at Karaka, with 198 yearlings catalogued for
the one-day Sale. The $100,000 Carnival Sale Bonus will again be available to every horse bought through the ring, plus
all graduates are eligible to nominate for the 2009 Karaka Million Series.
