Silver Fern Farms Change Signals New Direction
Today PPCS announced that, from mid-year, the new name for the company will be Silver Fern Farms Limited.
Speaking at the company’s annual meeting of shareholders in Dunedin today, Chairman Reese Hart said that the change to
Silver Fern Farms Limited is part of a strategy to re-position the business as a fully integrated marketing company.
“It is 60 years since PPCS was founded by a group of innovative farmers who dared to challenge the status quo. They did
not accept that the marketing of their products was best left in the hands of offshore owners.
“Instead, they set about to change the industry model and forge a direct relationship with their customers.
“Today marks a major milestone in the company’s progress towards being a marketing-focused exporter.
“Today we announced a new name that signals a new strategy and our aspiration to be a fully-integrated marketing
company - Silver Fern Farms Limited.
“Silver Fern already is one of our company’s leading export brands and a by-word for consistency, quality and product
innovation. In this way, Silver Fern Farms Limited builds on our existing strengths.
“Around the middle of this year, our customers, suppliers and New Zealanders will know us by the name of Silver Fern
Farms. Our farmer-suppliers will be partners in Silver Fern Farms with a direct connection to our international
customers,” he said.
Mr Hart said that the company’s international consumer brands will consolidate around a single, strong Silver Fern
brand as: Silver Fern Lamb®, Silver Fern Beef® and Silver Fern Venison®.
“Our ambition is for our Silver Fern brand to become the premium New Zealand international meat brand.
“In Silver Fern, we are creating a brand that showcases the very best of New Zealand. It is the banner under which we
will take New Zealand product to the world and present a promise of purity, taste and quality,” he said.
