Leading Wellington Business Chief Appointed Business Roundtable Vice-Chair
New Zealand Business Roundtable chairman Rob McLeod today announced the appointment of Nick Calavrias as a new vice-chair of the organisation. He joins current vice-chairs Bill Day and Bill Gallagher.
Nick Calavrias is the chief executive of Hutt Valley-based Steel & Tube Holdings Limited, New Zealand's largest distributor of steel and allied products. Listed on the stock exchange since 1967 and ranked in the top 50 companies by market capitalisation.
Steel & Tube employs 860 people and has 59 distribution and service centres throughout the country, with annual sales of around NZ$500 million.
Nick Calavrias has been chief executive of Steel & Tube for the past 17 years and a member of the New Zealand Business Roundtable since 1993. He became a member of the Institute of Directors in 1993 and in 2002 was seconded to the Heavy Engineering Research Association. Nick is also a non executive director of Rangatira Limited and Chairman of Contract Resources Limited.
Rob McLeod said he was very pleased to have someone of Mr Calavrias’ calibre and extensive business experience in the role.
Nick Calavrias said he was delighted to accept the position and looked forward to contributing to the organisation’s mission of helping to raise New Zealand’s economic performance.
