Records Keep Tumbling At Select Sale Opening Session
A strong opening session of the New Zealand Bloodstock Select Sale at Karaka has seen 161 of the 218 lots on offer change hands for a new record average and median.
Surpassing both last year's final median and average, the new record median is $52,500, up 25% from the final Select Sale median in 2007 of $42,000. The average is currently tracking at $66,919, a 32% increase from last year's final average of $50,755, and the average of $48,381 at the same point in the 2007 Select Sale (after 218 lots).
The current turnover after three days of selling at Karaka is $87,889,500 with today's clearance rate currently at 80%. This already eclipses the turnover for the entire Karaka Sale Series (including the Carnival Sale) in 2007 of $85,284,950 with five days of Yearling Sales left on the cards this year.
Lot 695 with new owners William Tai, Dennis Yip and Highview Stud's Allan Roberts.
The top end of the market was particularly strong today at Karaka, with nine lots already selling for $200,000 or more, compared with just one at this Sale last year.
The highlight of the day came at Lot 695, an O'Reilly colt from the Gold Brose mare Gold Sparkle. Offered by Hallmark Stud, he was bought by John White Bloodstock on behalf of Hong Kong clients Dennis Yip and William Tai for $250,000.
The leading buyer of the session is Matamata based trainer, Paul Moroney with six yearlings purchased today for $610,000 in receipts. This is in addition to six yearlings he purchased at the Premier Sale earlier this week. Moroney is joined on the buyers sheets by prominent buyers John Chalmers Bloodstock of Western Australia, Hong Kong based Magus Equine and Champion Singapore trainer, Laurie Laxon.
The Select Sale continues at Karaka tomorrow with Lot 714 set to go under the hammer at 11am.
