Premium Waikato dairy farm set to achieve record price
29 January 2008: With milksolid payouts at premium levels, a high-performing 538 hectare dairy farm near Huntly in North
Waikato that is being marketed exclusively by Harcourts is well placed to achieve a record price.
Successful Harcourts Business Owner Kevin Deane says the huge “superbly improved” farm at Naike, 26 km west of Huntly,
could be the biggest dairy farm sale in the Waikato this season, particularly if the property is sold as a going concern
with the 1,100 cows on the property.
“Superbly improved in recent years this large scale dairying operation producing almost 400,000 kilograms of milksolids
per annum offers South Island-scale farming in a fantastic central North Island location,” says Mr Deane, the owner of
four Harcourts offices in the Waikato.
The farm features approximately 500 hectares in pasture (divided into 82 well-fenced paddocks), a near- new 50-bale
rotary cowshed and a new 10-bay shed alongside, a woolshed, eight haysheds spread around the flat to rolling farm, two
large calf-rearing sheds and an implement shed. The property also includes four three-bedroom houses – two brick and
tile and two weatherboard, one with a pool –and comes with a substantial Fonterra shareholding.
“There’s also some lovely pockets of native bush and a few ponds that are well-utilised in duck-shooting season, along
with few acres in crops,” Mr Deane says.
“Add to this its own water supply and a new effluent irrigation system, eight metre-wide races, good annual rainfall
plus premium alluvial silt loam soil and this property is very appealing indeed, particularly given how high milksolid
payouts are.
“We’re confident this top-notch property will attract a lot of interest and offers well over its current rateable value
of $7.225m. There’s definitely the potential for this property to achieve a record price for a Waikato dairy farm,” he
says.
With the current owners, who are now in their ninth season on the farm, keen to pursue other opportunities this premier
farm is up for sale by tender, with a deadline of Friday 7 March.
