Federated Farmers Adjusts Names Of Industry Groups
Federated Farmers has adjusted the names of its seven industry groups to create a clearer link to New Zealand's premier rural lobby group.
The changes, approved by the Federated Farmers' national board, will ensure that farmers, the media, external stakeholders, and the wider public clearly understand that the seven industry groups are part of Federated Farmers.
"There has been a little bit of confusion around the industry group names because their previous titles did not include the words 'Federated Farmers'. This name change will clear up that confusion," said Charlie Pedersen, President of Federated Farmers of New Zealand.
The new names, in bold, are:
* Federated Farmers Bees - was New Zealand Bee Industry Group
* Federated Farmers Dairy - was Dairy Farmers of New Zealand
* Federated Farmers Goats - was Mohair New Zealand
* Federated Farmers Grain & Seed - was Grains Council of New Zealand
* Federated Farmers High Country - was South Island High Country Committee
* Federated Farmers Meat & Fibre - was New Zealand Meat & Fibre Producers
* Federated Farmers Rural Butchers - was Rural Butchers Association
To ensure adequate representation, members of Federated Farmers are self-classified into industry groups, according to their type of farming operation. Federated Farmers Dairy and Federated Farmers Meat & Fibre are the biggest industry groups, followed by Federated Farmers Grain & Seed. Some members belong to more than one industry group.
Each industry group has its own governance structure. Industry group councillors hold regular meetings to discuss issues relevant to their industry, and pass policy remits which can be brought to Federated Farmers' top decision making body, its National Council. Each industry group has one dedicated vote on the 41-member council, which meets twice a year.
"The Federation also includes 24 provinces which are already clearly identified as belonging to Federated Farmers (eg, Southland Federated Farmers, Waikato Federated Farmers, Taranaki Federated Farmers). Their names do not need to change," Mr Pedersen said.
Each industry group has a new logo which illustrates the clear link to Federated Farmers.
