EMBARGOED FOR THE 13 DECEMBER 2007
Online Freight / Transport efficiency system launches this month
From 16 December 2007 New Zealanders will have a smarter option to help manage their freight or transport needs. A website called www.freightbid.co.nz is now live and offers the public, and transport operators many benefits and efficiencies through an online freight market place.
“This has huge potential as a tool to deliver real benefits to business and the community through efficiency gains”, says business Development Manager, Peter Mortimer. “Customers save time, and are likely to get more cost effective deals and suppliers should become more efficient and increase productivity and profits”. “The environment also wins through potentially less annualised load cycles to move the same tonnage of freight”. “We have registered Freight suppliers spanning all freight categories and in all parts of New Zealand. Our biggest challenge is spreading the word about the efficiency gains possible from this system”.
The user friendly system enables customers to register for free to list any freight job they may have. The system will allow any category of freight to be listed from furniture removals, live stock, produce, vehicles, boats, building supplies, logs, pets, aggregates, manufactured goods to name a few. Save time by not having to make multiple calls to freight companies obtaining quotes to know you have the right deal for you. Have comfort in dealing with professional suppliers by assessing their feedback rating and checking their Transport Service License verification. Gain access to many suppliers able to move your goods. Simply list your job and wait for the offers. Offers are confidential between the Freight Supplier and Customer. The lowest, or any bid may not necessarily be accepted.
Freight Suppliers will have another management tool at their disposal. They will be notified of listed jobs by email giving them the opportunity to make an offer. By having a consolidated freight database that they can search and place offers on, they have the ability to optimise their load carrying capacity. This gives them the ability to increase profits and efficiency.
There are additional benefits such as moving more freight for the same load cycles. This will assist to increase economic development, decrease road congestion, and greenhouse emissions due to an overall reduction in load cycles.
