Adventure Travel On A Budget Just Got Breezier
True to their promise of serious investment into one of New Zealand’s original and largest campervan rental companies,
Tourism Holdings Limited (THL) is adding a new model to the Backpacker fleet. With a lower minimum driving age of 18
years and a list of practical features and handy equipment, the new Breezer campervan is effectively a mobile bach,
specially designed for budget-conscious adventure travel for two.
“The Backpacker Breezer will likely appeal to younger travellers on a budget, who just want a really easy, simple van to
facilitate their adventure,” says Nicole Bailey, Brand Manager, Backpacker. The Breezer is a targeted addition to the
Backpacker line-up. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Backpacker brand, this expansion of the fleet is
evidence of the success and vitality of the long-standing, well-trusted rental company. All geared up and ready for the
intrepid duo, the Breezer comes complete with roof racks, great storage capacity, an mp3 player and air conditioning in
the driver’s cabin.
It is an economical, high quality vehicle with newly fitted interior and sleeping capacity for two. Standard equipment
and features include kitchen facilities, a bench that slides out into a double bed, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery,
sleeping bags and pillows, and even a 44 litre chilly bin and portable gas stove. Based on the Mitsubishi L300 Van, the
Backpacker Breezer meets the tough new low-emission standards set out by VTNZ, New Zealand’s leading vehicle testing
company. In fact, the Breezer received a 5-star approval rating, the highest VTNZ offers. “Often, backpackers see the
beauty of our country from a surfboard, or while plummeting off a bridge with a cord tied around their legs,” says
Bailey.
“Many of these adventure travellers are concerned with preserving the natural beauty of the places they visit, and are
becoming increasingly aware of their carbon footprint ... as are we. THL is committed to doing our part to reduce
emissions and help protect New Zealand.”
Bailey says she knows that this type of holidaymaker may want basic, budget-friendly options when it comes to their
vehicle and accommodation, but they will still demand – and deserve – quality solutions. “That’s why we are so excited
to introduce the Backpacker Breezer,” she says. “It’s such a natural fit for the adventure traveller.”
THL will launch the Breezer with an introductory rental rate of $84 per day (based on 35+ day rate) for the month of
December; after that, rental rates will be based on Smartrates. Bookings are available as of 10th December, with travel
from 12th December. The Breezer will be available from all New Zealand branches.
