Albany puts on Christmas spectacular
Westfield Albany will host the season’s most magnificent light switching on ceremony this Friday 23 November.
Westfield Albany – one of New Zealand’s largest shopping centres is erecting a giant 10metre high x 5metre diameter Christmas tree in the centre’s plaza which will be lit with hundreds of fairy lights especially for the festive season.
To celebrate the centre’s first Christmas, the centre is hosting a special community event to celebrate the turning on of the tree lights with a twenty minute fireworks display.
Visitors to the centre will be entertained for the evening by local school choirs and dance groups from Northcross Intermediate, Oteha Valley School, Albany Junior High School, Murrays Bay Intermediate and Westminster Christian School. The children will be joined by special guests The Early Birds, The Society Jazz Man and Marian Burns.
At 8:45pm the Christmas tree lights will be switched on by local Councillor Lisa Whyte and will be followed by a 20 minute fireworks display to begin the festive season with a bang.
“Westfield Albany is looking forward to launching this year’s festive season in spectacular style,” says Westfield Albany centre manager, Lorraine Gattis.
“Christmas is always a special time of the year and we will be celebrating the switching on of our tree lights with an amazing fireworks display, something we hope will become an annual event.”
“We hope the community comes down to New Zealand’s newest shopping centre to help us celebrate Westfield Albany’s first Christmas.”
At 1pm the following day (Saturday 24 November) Santa will be arriving to take up residence in his specially designed Christmas Railway Station installation and will hear what North Shore children want for Christmas this year.
