Fast 50 environment specialists Andrew.Stewart Ltd announce climate change services
Environmental, resource management and planning specialists Andrew Stewart Ltd today announced a new subsidiary to
provide a suite of climate change services, after being named as the only environmental consultancy firm in New
Zealand’s Fast 50 list for 2007.
The firm’s revenue and staff growth over the last three years put the company into the Deloitte/Unlimited Magazine
award, an index of successful businesses contributing to rapid economic growth.
The Auckland-based multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy has helped deliver more than $500 million of new public
and commercial infrastructure during the last five years. Current projects include a nation-wide telecommunications
contract and Auckland City’s stormwater infrastructure programme.
Andrew.Stewart Ltd says significant increases in demand for advice on sustainable business practices, carbon emissions,
corporate social responsibility and reporting have prompted the formation of a climate and business-focussed subsidiary
to offer integrated climate change services.
The new subsidiary, CarbonGroup Ltd, will provide specialist climate change consulting services from January.
These will include carbon verification and management tools, sustainable business guidance, and trading/brokerage
services designed to help businesses of any size negotiate complex and changing environmental challenges. CarbonGroup
will partner with national and overseas associates to deliver leading-edge knowledge to the market.
Development of CarbonGroup services will be led by Dr Stephen Stokes, an environmental change and business specialist
and a former Associate Professor at Oxford University’s Centre for the Environment. He specialises in climate change and
business and additionally has a background in geological resource asset management, numerical and geospatial analysis,
and corporate environmental diligence.
Director Duncan Stewart describes recent growth in awareness of the climate change agenda and its importance to business
as an entirely new paradigm for any organisation to both reduce risk and to build strategic competitive advantage.
“A carbon-constrained global economy presents opportunities and challenges even greater than those which took place
during the dot com boom,” he said.
“As with that event, early movers will benefit and slow adapters are likely to suffer significantly.
“CarbonGroup intends meeting this new market in early 2008 by leveraging off existing competencies in environment,
compliance and technology, and building further capability.”
He attributes Andrew.Stewart’s growth to constant service innovation and a no-nonsense focus on achieving results for
clients.
“Clients use Andrew.Stewart because we avoid the usual red tape — it’s about taking the most efficient route to getting
projects delivered.”
“For us, innovation means forecasting what the market will demand in two to five years time, and working with early
adopters to make that happen right away.”
Mr Stewart pointed to Andrew.Stewart subsidiary technology company CS-VUE (an online consent management tool) and a new
on-site environmental compliance programme ‘GreenLight’ as examples of successful innovation.
Andrew.Stewart Ltd has also recently added quarrying and heavy industry consulting to its existing range of
environmental technical services and are advising a number of leading regional and national companies.
