Hundreds Raised For Lend A Hand Foundation
More than one thousand dollars has been raised for the TrustPower Lend A Hand Foundation through the Waipori Centenary
Open Days.
The Open Days were held this weekend (Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 November) as part of the Waipori Hydro-Electric Power
Scheme Centenary Celebrations.
Around 500 people toured through Waipori power station No 2A during the weekend and viewed the historical information
and memorabilia on display as part of the 100th birthday celebrations. Entry to the power station was via a gold coin
donation, and as a result $1,152 has been gifted to the TrustPower Lend A Hand Foundation.
The TrustPower Lend A Hand Foundation raises funds to assist small charitable groups and individuals in the Otago
region. The Foundation is a partnership between TrustPower, the Malcam Charitable Trust and the St Kilda Rotary Club.
Over the last three years the Foundation has injected more than $20,000 into the Otago community.
TrustPower Lend A Hand Foundation spokesperson Malcolm Cameron says they are delighted with the money raised during the
weekend, which will go directly back into the community through the Foundation’s work with charitable groups and
deserving individuals.
“Our partnership with TrustPower started in 2001 and since then it has grown stronger and stronger. It is really, really
special that we could join with TrustPower to celebrate the Waipori Centenary and we are blown away with the generosity
of those who attended the Centenary celebrations,” says Malcolm Cameron.
The Waipori Centenary Celebrations were officially opened on Saturday 17 November by Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin, Clutha
Mayor Juno Hayes and TrustPower Acting Chairman Bruce Harker. Minister of Energy Hon David Parker also attended the
opening. As part of the official celebrations a commemorative plaque was unveiled at the power station and a massive
100th birthday cake was served.
TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Pip Tschudin says turning 100 is a great milestone, and being able to
celebrate that while assisting such a worthy cause has been fantastic.
“The TrustPower Lend a Hand Foundation does an amazing job assisting Otago’s small, grass roots organisations and
individuals that need a helping hand. We are delighted to have been able to use such an important event to promote the
Foundation’s work and raise funds for the cause,” says Mrs Tschudin.
