New Website For Kiwi Car Buyers
A new consumer information website for Kiwi car buyers goes live today, aimed at helping New Zealand motorists find
safe, clean and fuel-efficient vehicles.
Developed and administered by Land Transport NZ, www.rightcar.govt.nz provides detailed, searchable information on over
2,300 new and used cars. Using the website car buyers can compare over 900 new and 1,400 used makes and models in terms
of safety, fuel efficiency and emissions. A six star rating system is used for each category. The more stars, the better
the vehicle.
Land Transport NZ Chief Executive Wayne Donnelly said the new website was part of the organisation’s drive to reduce CO2
emissions from transport, bring down the road toll and improve the efficiency of the New Zealand vehicle fleet.
“We all want safer roads, cleaner air and lower fuel bills, and the cars we choose to drive make a big difference. Last
year cars changed hands more than 825,000 times in this country. Collectively those purchasing decisions have a
significant impact on the state of our national vehicle fleet. Even a small shift in buying patterns towards safer and
more sustainable cars can help upgrade the standard of our fleet, reducing the negative impact of vehicle emissions on
the environment and making our roads safer for everyone,” Mr Donnelly said.
The Rightcar website also includes background information on fuel economy ratings, vehicle pollution and emissions
standards, and safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
