Black & Decker Relaunches The Iconic "Dustbuster"
One of the most successful products ever created by Black & Decker is set to be relaunched in New Zealand with a new look, more power and extra handy design features.
The Black & Decker Dustbuster was originally introduced to the US in 1979, and sold over a million units in its first year of release; four times as many as traditional hand-held vacuum cleaners that year. This light, portable gadget typified the move to convenience that prevailed in the 1980s, creating an entirely new market segment of portable vacuum cleaners, as well as a new household product business for Black & Decker.
By 1985, over six million Dustbusters were being sold annually, and it quickly became recognized as an icon of popular culture.
Imitation products soon flooded the market, some of which had their patents challenged by Black & Decker for similarities in appearance and function.
The first Dustbuster was sold in New Zealand in 1980.
New model most convenient ever Although slight changes have been made to its design over the years, the new Dustbuster Pivot features a unique pivoting nozzle that can be rotated 200 degrees and locked into 10 different positions. This allows users to vacuum in hard to reach places; under sofa chairs, on top of shelves and in corners.
After cleaning, the nozzle folds away completely into the body of the appliance for extra compactness.
With a powerful 2-speed 12,14 or 18V 'cyclonic action' motor, the DustBuster Pivot delivers high level suction performance for effective cleaning.
A clear plastic dirt collection unit and a detachable side-emptying system allow you to see when the Dustbuster is full, and lets you empty the unit at the touch of a button. A filter cleaning wheel also lets you clean the filter without touching the dirt, so cleaning power is not lost because of clogging.
With an additional extendable 'crevice' tool and handy soft brush, the Dustbuster Pivot is especially useful for keeping a car interior clean.
The DustBuster Pivot will be available from all appliance retailers from October.
The RRPs for the 12Volt is $139; the 14Volt is $149 and the 18V is $169.
